Organizational tab missing in Lync 2013

If you notice that the organizational tab is missing for your Lync contacts, here’s what you need to check:

  • If you do not have Outlook installed on the same machine
    • If this is a domain joined machine, it will display the organizational information based on the information it fetches from AD. Contacts that are created in the cloud will not display the organizational info. Contacts that you have added to your Lync Contacts (UCS) will not display the organizational info.
    • If this is a machine outside of your corporate environment, no contacts will display the organizational information.
  • If you are using Outlook 2010, pretty much the same will apply. The upside is that you will then be able to view the organizational information within Outlook.
  • If you are using Outlook 2013, everything comes together nicely, regardless of the location (it will work both in and out of the corporate environment). Few caveats however:
    • Make sure the default Outlook profile matches the Lync profile (or at least is a profile from the same tenant). Otherwise no contacts will display the tab.
    • Make sure the OAB has been downloaded and up to date, otherwise your Lync contacts will not display the tab (I’m looking at you, UCS!).
    • The organizational tab might also be disabled by Group Policy, see here and here.

The organizational tab might also be disabled by the CsPolicy, see here.
