Autodiscover and free/buys issues with the \Boot key configured (KB 2785498)

Some of you might already be familiar with the KB 2785498 article, namely “Outlook AutoDiscover fails with error 0x8004010F”. The solution is simple enough, however the Symptoms section of the article needs a little addition:

Not only Outlook will fail to configure an account automatically (which you can work around by using manual configuration), but EVERYTHING autodiscover related will not work. Including obtaining the free/busy information, OOO settings, any automapped mailboxes (and the archive), etc.

So, if you are facing some strange Autodiscover related issue, don’t forget to check for the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\xx.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover\Boot key!
